It's proving to be an interesting year with lots going on and some great variation in the type of clients I am working with. Each having their own goal, whether that be to lose weight, cycle the Marmotte or to improve their fitness and wellbeing.
I am also now running additonal boot camps on Wednesdays and Fridays following a request to do this. In fact we've had a merge of boot camp participants from these sessions doing the Saturday sessions. The numbers for the Saturday and Tuesday sessions are healthy and we certainly do have a laugh whilst I help to convert the participants into highly tuned athletes.
Fitness Studio is Now in Action
I've had some great feedback from my clients on the fitness studio. They have all the perks of having a private gym - so no waiting to get on equipment. The equipment runs smoothly and has some great programmes to keep life interesting and give variation as well as personal bests to target. Of course there is the shower faciities too.
2010 - An Exciting Start
I've had a rush of cyclists take up my coaching services over the past month. Many of these are not racing cyclists but have major challenges ahead, some of which I would certainly think twice about undertaking. These include sportives such as Etape Caledonia and the Marmotte. Also, I have a rider doing Rock to Rock - Guernsey to Gibraltar over the course of 2 weeks.
It's great for me to be able to help non-racing cyclists as well as those that race competitvely whether that is in triathlon or cycling. It's certainly going to be a busy year with the cycling and will be exciting to see people improve. I have the benefit of cycle testing equipment which measures people's performance so I can monitor their improvements with some precision.

Fitness Studio Update
Today was a big day in the progress of my fitness studio. The much awaited new staircase has arrived and a trench was dug out in my garden to accommodate the electrics. Things are really moving on. The equipment is ready and waiting to be shipped across and I should have the studio up and running by 8 March.
Coming Soon..........Private Fitness Studio
Clients will soon be able to train in my private fitness studio. Shower / changing facilities will be available which makes pre-work or lunch time sessions an option. I expect the studio to be in operation in February 2010. No waiting for equipment, no wondering what others are thinking about you and no disruptions from school children having a PE lesson. Please ask me for more details.
Offices Benefit from Nutrition and Fitness Presentations
Ann Bowditch has been visiting places of business around the Island to advise on aspects of nutrition and fitness. The talk looks into the relationship between food and exercise with the intention of getting people to pay more attention to what they are eating and how much exercise they would need to do in order to burn off a calorific meal. Participants are demonstrated a range of fitness equipment from medicine balls to resistance bands. “I know lots of people don’t enjoy exercising in the gym so I want to get the message across that there are other options. Also, I want to demonstrate some exercises that can be done with stability balls as they are so versatile. I find lots of people have these but the [stability] balls tend to end up deflated in the garden shed.”
Ann explained that there are plenty of options when it comes to exercising “I do a huge variety of training sessions with clients, the aim being to find something that they will enjoy so that they look forward to the training session. If the weather is good, we often get outside, perhaps a cliff walk, a cycle or use some equipment. This Island offers fantastic landscape for exercise so there really is no excuse.”
Ann runs her business, ‘Bowditch Fitness and Nutrition’ which was a natural progression for her from her cycling and that of a cycle coach. She said “as I became more involved in my cycling and coaching, I developed an interest in nutrition. Now my business allows me to work with a large range of people from sports people and teams to those looking to lose weight and improve their health. I find it very rewarding and it’s great to work on a subject that I feel so passionate about.”
